A once-in-a-lifetime piece of important Cartier fine jewelry, the beauty and importance of which cannot be overstated and suitable for the most discerning of collectors. Cartier drew inspiration from its own heritage and emulated the design of a set of rock crystal and diamond bracelets purchased by actress Gloria Swanson in 1930. She wore these bracelets in the movies “Perfect Understanding” and “Sunset Boulevard”.

A photograph of Ms. Swanson wearing the bracelets is shown on page 30 of the book “Cartier in America”. This exclusive treasure, named the “Declaration”, is fabricated in the same style as its art deco predecessor, with sections of rock crystal and diamonds flowing effortlessly together to create a truly striking masterpiece. However, while the piece immortalized by Ms. Swanson was a set of bracelets, this piece conceals, then reveals, both a pave diamond dial watch and a 1.00 carat diamond solitaire behind floating sections of baguette diamond links that slide to and fro.

This brilliant design has produced an alluring, dazzling creation. The piece is made of 18k white gold and measures 8.25 inches long. It was debuted by Cartier in 2004 with a retail price of $515,000. Each link is individual and can be removed by a skilled jeweler to accommodate any wrist size. In total, it is set with 551 round brilliant- and baguette diamonds weighing 18.76 carats.
