Arts & Crafts Moonstone, Pearl & Enamel Necklace
Fun and eye-catching, this is a fantastically unusual and fine Arts & Crafts work of art. Evolving from influences of the Art Nouveau era, though slightly more uniform the organic nature of that influence is predominant throughout the piece. Subsequent to Art Nouveau, Arts & Crafts emerged as an art form with political and societal underpinnings as it rebelled against the machined techniques popularizing at the time of this necklace’s inception. The handmade and imperfect nature of such a piece was believed to enhance its beauty. Typical of this era the design was of more importance than stones or precious metals. With that said the quality of the natural pearls and moonstone is wonderful, evident this artist did not want to distract from the overall quality of his or her artistry by using unworthy stones. This piece, however, is consistent with other trends of Arts & Crafts through its utilization of cabochon cut stones and abstract enamel coloring. A well thought through design that is as perfectly imperfect as intended.
